You really need to think hard about using Google and Flickr images in your work. If you decide to use an image, you need to do the following:

  • Pay attention to copyright
  • Refer to the image in your text
  • Cite using the author’s name
  • Place an entry in the reference list.

All websites will have some information on license and usage rights. Many photographers only want attribution, i.e., to cite then as the creator.

Google

Look for images that are labeled for reuse.

Flickr

Look for images by license type.

Please read APA Style Guide post Clip Art or Stock Image References for how to create an in-text citation and reference list entry for an image.

Use the following pattern for citing a work of art (painting, drawing, sculpture, photograph, or other medium).

Artist, A. A. (copyright year). Title of work [Medium: Painting, drawing, sculpture, photograph, etc.]. https://www.www.www

Ward, J. (1993). R L Transport Corp Hino NYA-759 in J Abad Santos near Solis Street, Tondo, Manila, Philippines [Photograph]. https://www.flickr.com/photos/25653307@N03/3975941426/
